Information

Siliken will build one of the largest solar parks in the world in the state of Durango, Mexico.

The renewable energy company considers Durango a state that offers optimal solar radiation conditions. The solar park will have a power output of 100MW and cover 300 hectares, which will amount to a total investment of $300 million (€220 million). This project has triggered the recent visit of the Governor of the state of Durango, Jorge Herrera, to Siliken’s headoffices as a gesture of good will and full support. The Governor and his party, including the Secretary of Economic Development of Durango, Juan Francisco Gutiérrez; the Deputy Secretaries of Economic Development of Durango, Esteban Rosas and Luis Madrazo; the Vice-President of Foreign Trade of Durango, Brenda Samano; the President of the Business Coordination Council of Durango, Manuel Rodríguez Rocha; the President of Female Employers of Durango, Yolanda Pacheco; the Secretary to the Governor, José Ángel Reinosa, and reporters of Canal 12 and Canal 10 of Durango, have met with Siliken’s Executive Board in support of the solar park project.

Jorge Herrera has put great effort in attracting Spanish investments to his State and Siliken was chosen to develop this large project, which has already been coined by the locals as “The neighbourhood of the sun”. Up till now, Siliken has signed a Commodate contract to manage the lot dedicated to the solar park in Canatlán for 30 years. In addition, the company is in the process of obtaining the permissions from the corresponding authorities in order to manage the solar park project. The permissions are expected to be granted in four to six months. In optimal conditions and after closing the energy sales contracts currently under negotiation, the first solar panel will be installed in the summer of 2012. The project will be carried out in four phases, one year for each phase, for which a local workforce will be hired. The panels installed in the Durango solar park will also be manufactured locally, which will benefit the local economy.
